Singapore – one of the finest destinations of my travel diary. An island country in the South East Asia with multicultural population. Its truly one of the most memorable destination I had visited so far. I have been there twice and if got chance will visit again. It is almost the most perfect country of the world; clean, green, structured & civilized. It has everything for everyone.
This time I planned my family holidays to Singapore (my wife and our 3 years old son). As soon as we landed after a long journey of 14 hours (Karachi to Dubai and then Dubai to SG) the first best thing was Singapore Airport – the Changi Airport which is so mesmerizing. It is rated as the world’s best airport by Sky Trax, for the sixth consecutive year since 2013 and it’s one of the world’s busiest airport by international passengers and cargo traffic.
Once done with the airport, we checked in to our hotel (Hotel V at Lavender). Hotel V is just about a budget hotel, but we selected it for its location. It was just over the MRT station with a perfect view of the City.
Singapore is small yet beautiful and clean. We tried to cover most of the places, but it had so many beautiful sites that we cannot cover in eight days accompanied by a toddler.
The places we visited includes:
- Sentosa Island – It includes several activities and places to visit, such as Adventure Cove Water park, Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom, ifly Singapore, etc. You have several options to reach the Sentosa, but we choose to use the Cable Car ride from Mount Faber junction.
- Universal Studios – The mere reason of our travel to the island. Universal studio is perfect for kids. Though we thought that ours was a bit too young but still we all enjoyed a lot.
- Gardens by the Bay – The two Domes (Flower Dome and Cloud Forest). We kept on wondering which one is better than the other. Both had their own unique experience.
- Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and River Safari – We originally planned to experience the river and night safari only but on our last day we opted to visit the zoo as well and believe me it wasn’t a bad decision. After 5 months my son still remembers all the animals that we visited in the zoo. It’s not just a zoo. It has several activities and shows planned which keeps the visitors engaged.
Other places that we visited includes, the Orchard Road, Buggis, Suntec City, Mustafa Center, Chinatown, Little India and many other places. The places we missed included Singapore flyer, Jurong Bird Park, Madame Tussaud and many more unexplored gems. However, we missed them to make an excuse to visit Singapore again 😊
Many times, we use to just roam around the city walking to different streets. You will hardly see any person in a hurry. The city is as calm as the sea. However, you can’t walk around on the streets of Singapore without carrying an umbrella. You never know when the rain starts, however, the weather is pleasant neither too cold nor hot.
The food street near Mustafa Centre seems blessing, all the veg’s and halal restaurants were located there. Our favorite one was Al Arfaa restaurant, their North Indian Biryani was yummy, I still miss it. Also, the quick n fast breakfast of the dhaba type restaurant which was walking distance from our hotel, the chai (tea) was superb I couldn’t find that taste here.
Considering the large number of tourists visiting Singapore but still you won’t find any problem in commuting around the city. We enjoy traveling in the public MRT which were so fast. There was option of traveling from Buses and taxis, but we preferred traveling in MRT because it’s cheap and quick.
What we miss most about Singapore is the discipline among people. The people are so calm and composed that you will never find any one in rush, running in hurry banging horns and creating noise.
Green, beautiful, calm, peaceful, and tension free life.
